Five years ago, Northern Art Glass welcomed two visitors from Attawapiskat for an intensive 10 day workshop to learn the stained glass process from start to finish. Jackie Hookimaw-Witt and her husband Norbert came with the object of designing and fabricating the first of 6 large windows for St. Francis Xavier Catholic church on the reserve. Northern Art Glass receiving our first shipment of Spectrum Glass produced by Oceanside Glass & Tile in their brand new Mexico facility. We are happy to celebrate the addition of Spectrum glass to our glass line once again. Oceanside also purchased Uroborus Glass, previously of Portland OR. More varieties of Spectrum and Uroborus glass can be expected in the coming months.

West Block Stained Glass

The West Block on Parliament Hill has been a work in progress for over 7 years. The original stained and leaded glass windows were taken out for safe keeping early in the game. Northern Art Glass removed this rose window, high above the southwest entrance, facing Wellington Street, in 2012. The window underwent a complete restoration process in 2014. Approximetly 35% of the original glass had to be either replaced, painted to match by Vasile Mosanu, or cracked panes glued together with hxtal epoxy, a museum conservation product. After more than five years of neglect, Northern Art Glass was able to access Trinity Anglican Church in Brockville to remove a treasure trove of stained glass windows ahead of the bulldozers. Home to roosting pigeons and bats, the derelict church owned by a developer, required an environmental clean-up just to enter the building. Our removal team still required full hazmat gear for safe working conditions even in 30+ degree weather. Scaffolding was needed to access 16 foot high stained glass windows.
