This original stained glass window in a century-old Cooper street home is inspired by the Art Nouveau designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Scottish architect and designer.
This rose pattern was one of his most popular motifs. The theme of this window is also quite unique. Gather Ye Rosebuds is a line from the 17th century poem “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick which begins:
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.
We can only guess at the original owners motivations for commissioning such a wondrous composition.
